The European Commission brings together the Earth System Science Horizon 2020 projects and policy makers to exchange knowledge and needs.

The European Commission has announced the organisation of a Climate Science2Policy workshop (CS2P workshop) to bring together Horizon 2020 projects related to climate science and policy makers. The main goal is to identify and discuss key policy-relevant messages and research requirements to achieve the climate targets of the European Green Deal, as well as other climate change related policies and programmes.

The CS2P workshop, which will take place from 17 to 18 November 2020, will foster the exchange of knowledge and needs between researchers and policy-makers, in a collaborative approach between the European Commission and the Earth System Science Horizon 2020 projects: APPLICATE, BLUE-ACTION, CRESCENDO, CONSTRAIN, COMFORT, EUCP, FORCeS, NUNATARYUK, PRIMAVERA, PROTECT, SO-CHIC, VERIFY, TiPACCs, TiPES and 4C

The workshop will follow two main themes:

  • DAY 1: (17 November 2020, 09:00 - 16:15 CET): Climate sensitivity and emerging findings on the physical science of climate change relevant for climate policies.
  • DAY 2: (18 November 2020, 09:00 - 13:00 CET): Cross-cutting topics on H2020 project implementation (Policy session, Communication & dissemination practices, Computing needs).

4C coordinator Pierre Friedlingstein and Corinne Le Quéré will take part in the event.

Friedlingstein will give a 10-minute talk on CO2 emissions and earth system response in the Covid-19 pandemics at 13:30 CET as part of the session S3a [13:30 - 14:45: S3a: Carbon budgets, including climate factors in the Covid-19 pandemics] on Day 1 (Tuesday, 17th November).

Le Quéré will give a 5-minute hands-on talk on ScienceBrief: a new web platform to help keep up with climate science and make sense of peer-reviewed publications as part of the session S2 [10:15 – 11:15: S2. Communicating and Disseminating H2020 project results] on Day 2 (Wednesday, 18th November).

To register and find out more about the background, objectives and programme of the workshop, visit the CS2P website. The registration will close on 15 November 2020. The number of participants is limited due to the technical capacity of the online platform.
